ATUG 2005 Conference

ATUG 2005 Conference
ATUG’S 21st Annual Conference, ATUG 2005, was held in Sydney at the Australian Technology Park, on 9-10 March 2005.

The focus for ATUG 2005 will be innovation and its role in strengthening choice and competition. Innovative services and service providers will be as important to greater competition over the next five years, as policy and regulation have been in getting us to where we are now.

ATUG 2005 will offer four Update Sessions and 4 VoIP workshops:

Policy and Regulation – new directions, new rules
Managed Services – new service providers
User case studies – new platforms and applications
Procurement strategies – new tools and tactics
4 IP Telephony/VoIP Workshops

Policy and Regulation continue to be important elements of the communications landscape. The Minister for Communications, IT and the Arts has been invited to deliver the Key Note address in the Policy Update session. The ACCC, the ACA, ACIF and industry commentators will also present their views on trends, issues and decisions relevant to end users during 2005.

Managed Services will provide an overview of the new players and services they offer. The focus will be on service providers and system integrators reflecting the trend among end users to focus on service outcomes and one stop shopping, rather than underlying technologies, and return on investment rather than price as the basis for buying communications.

The User Case Studies will be an opportunity for users to share their experiences of services and solutions such as Voice over IP, wireless solutions, broadband solutions, security, satellite, IP Communications. This session will also provide industry with an overview of the issues and perspectives of users who are implementing the latest industry offerings.

Procurement strategies are as important to good outcomes for users as reliable technologies and customer focused service providers. Model contracts, benchmarking, service level agreements, billing issues, tendering practices are among the issues that will be discussed by experts in these areas.

New additions to the ATUG 2005 Conference!
ATUG have added 4 IP Telephony/VoIP Workshops as part of the program. These workshops are designed to provide added valuable information to the delegates of the conference. Registration for the workshops will be sent out to delegates of the conference a week prior to the event.

ATUG 2005 will be designed to maximise opportunities for informal networking and information sharing. The program will feature two breakfast events focused on Technology Futures and their relevance to the long term trends that are of interest to end users managing communications strategies and services for their own customers.
