Anybody who has travelled overseas and used their mobile phone knows how useful
it can be to reach loved ones and conduct business using international
mobile roaming. They also know the significant cost they pay for this privilege.
The House of Representatives Communications Committee is inquiring into
whether international mobile roaming charges are fair. ATUG are holding
a series of forums to share opinions and experiences in preparation for
ATUG's submission to the Communications Committee, due on the 15th of August.
ATUG wants to let everyone know the opportunity is NOW to get these preposterous
rates down.
Around the world other Governments have tackled this issue head on – it’s
time that this happened in Australia.
The forums are open for all to attend and will focus on:
• Use of
international roaming services – voice and data
• Prices experienced for voice and data
• Use of alternate services – phone cards, local SIM, Skype
• Accessing information on prices
• Worst experience
• Best experience
• What can users do?
• What should industry do?
• What should government/regulators do?
