What is Excavation?
Excavation is a process of removing rocks, volume of soil, and other materials from a particular site, usually in order to put it on good use. This process is carried out through the use of heavy equipments like excavators, backhoes, bulldozers and dump trucks. Though site excavation is commonly done for the construction of good foundations for houses and buildings, site excavation is also done to conduct archeological researches in a particular area.
In constructing buildings or houses, site excavation is considered as a necessary early stage. This procedure makes the construction site free from any obstacles or defects that may cause problems to the foundation of the building or house to be built if not removed. Sometimes, excavation is being done on a construction site just to ensure that the materials over it are of high quality.
Once the contractors have found out that the excavated materials under the site could serve as a good foundation, they will then again put it back to their original place. The duration of an excavation for construction purposes varies widely depending on the depth of earth materials to be dug out.
Archaeological excavation on the other hand, explores earth materials from a particular site to be studied for historical and/or scientific interest.
Soil excavation is also done for environmental remediation. Some areas which are intended for growing crops are sometimes excavated to check whether the earth materials present on it are rich in nutrients. If the excavated earth materials lack nutrients, the excavated are is filled with healthy earth materials.
Excavation is not all about unearthing materials from particular sites, the process actually involves many other procedures like rock breaking, backyard clear-outs, demolition and many others. For instance, if there is a huge mass of boulder anchored in your place, an excavation specialist could pull it from the ground and break it down into tiny pieces.
